week 1

It's been 1 week since I arrived in California. It's been both eventful and relaxing at the same time. The day after I arrived I had a job interview which went well. Friday morning I had a meeting in San Francisco, followed by a night out in SF with all my "Bay Area Peeps" (as my email group is titled). We went to The Slanted Door, which was fantastic. That was followed by partying at Boss. Unfortunately, we were all so full from dinner, none of us could get drunk, despite lots of trying. Then we crashed a karaoke room to sing a few hits, and back out to the club floor. The following night included Wii fun at a friend's place. Since then, there's been lots of laundry, cleaning, errands, and sleeping. Not too bad.

Alex is out for the rest of the week in Colorado leaving me free to roam around the apartment. At first I thought it was going to suck, but so far so good. After dropping him off at the airport, I went grocery shopping. In addition to the usual stuff, I got some tequila and margarita mix (it's awesome to be able to get that at the grocery store), and I also got some Alize (flavored cognac).

//begin ramble:
The concept of grocery membership cards is really sneaky. I spent something like $130 tonight, and as the cashier was handing me the receipt he pointed out that I saved $15 with my membership card. Well, duh! Who wouldn't want a membership card then? Everyone must have one, so what's the point of even making people sign up for it? It's not like there are so many competing grocery chains out here... just Costco and Whole Foods (that I know of). So what do they gain by making me carry around a plastic barcode? They get to analyze my shopping habits and categorize me and make me a part of a very large dataset that helps them determine which brand of chips to put next to the dip and what aisle to keep the specials in. It's a bit scary really when you think about it. So far they haven't directly used it against/at me, but I wonder if one day they will.

...sorry that was a side track .... end ramble//

After I got groceries, I went to the gym for the 3rd time this week (yay me!). I then made my very first batch of guacamole (which came out delicious), and watched The Core streamed directly from Netflix. It actually worked pretty well. No stalling or buffering (although I let it sit for about 30 mins before I started playing). Too bad the selection for "watch now" is pretty shitty. (Otherwise I wouldn't have watched The Core.)

Oh, and I turned that job down for now. So the search goes on....

Pictures from the move and the night out are up on my Flickr.

I don't think I'm making much sense anymore. I think it's time for bed.
