best book ever
I'm almost done rereading The Foundation (by Isaac Asimov). This either the 3rd or 4th time I'm reading it, and each time, I'm reminded of how amazing this book is. It is definitely my favorite book. Even though my reading is limited to books of the SciFi/Fantasy genre, I've read quite a few of those, and this is by far the best one.
While it's interesting to read about a weird future utopia or dystopia, and some scientific ethical dilemma or alien invasion that occurs in a moment in that society, I much rather prefer to read books on the history of the future. How did the society get from where we are today to where they are. What choices were made that created the fantastical world the author is presenting. The Foundation is all about that. It's about the unfolding of the future.
The rest of the series goes downhill, as even Asimov doesn't like the future he's constructing, but I think he should've kept it on the original path. I was very disappointed by the ending.
I want to get Alex to read at least The Foundation. I think I'll move on to the Tripod series. I think it was the first scifi book I read, and I don't think I ever finished the entire series.
